JAMMU, Apr 21: For promotion of city compost in the urban areas of the State, Government has accorded sanction for constitution of a State Level Steering Committee on City Compost (SLCCC).
The committee shall tag the city compost producing units with fertilizer marketing companies for co-marketing as per policy notification and finalize the strategy for promoting usage of city compost in agriculture and horticulture activities.
The committee shall also monitor MRP of city compost being sold in the State under notified policy, prepare and implement the action plan for achieving 100 percent processing of municipal waste, monitor the issue of necessary certificates by concerned agency in the State Government to facilitate release of Market Development assistance to fertilizer companies and closely monitor the production of FCO compliant city compost and extend all necessary support to achieve the goal.
Headed by Administrative Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department as its Chairman and Convenor, the committee shall meet on a fortnightly basis to analyze the development in regard to compost promotion and distribution.
Other members of the committee shall be Administrative Secretary, Horticulture Department; representative of Agriculture Production Department (not below the rank of Special Secretary); Director Agriculture, Jammu/ Kashmir; Director Horticulture, Jammu/Kashmir, Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation; director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu/Kashmir, Commis-sioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation; State representative, National Fertilizers Ltd (to be nominated by MD National Fertilizers Ltd and State representative, Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Ltd (to be nominated by MD IFFCO).
