SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Government today accorded sanction to the constitution of State Mission Authority for empowering women socially, economically and educationally.
Chief Minister is the Chairman of the Authority while as Minister Incharge Housing and Urban Development and Municipalities, Ministers for Finance, School Education, Rural Development and Panchayats, Forest and Environment, Industries and Commerce, Health and Horticulture, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Agriculture, Revenue and Relief, Higher Education and Labour and Employment and Chairperson State Commission for Women are its members.
Minister for Social Welfare is the Member Convenor of the Authority while as three eminent civil society members to be nominated by the Chief Minister in consultation with the Minister for Social Welfare would also be the members of the Authority.
The objectives of the State Mission Authority will be to ensure access to health, drinking water, sanitation by women, coverage of all girls especially those belonging to vulnerable groups in schools from primary to 12th class, higher and professional education for girls/ women, skill development, micro credit, vocational training, entrepreneurship, Self Help Group development, gender sensitization and dissemination of information and prevention of crime against women and taking steps for a safe environment for women.
The functions of the Authority are to achieve empowerment of women on social, economic and educational fronts, secure convergence of schemes and programmes of different Ministries and Departments of Government of J&K as well as Government of India and to monitor and review gender budgeting by Ministers/ Departments as well as effective implementation of various social laws concerning women.
The State Mission Authority would primarily be a monitoring body for taking stock of monitorable indicators of women centric schemes/ programmes requiring convergent action for proper and effective delivery to the target groups.
