Steps afoot to develop periphery areas with all basic amenities: Bhalla

JAMMU, Mar 15: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla today said that Government has formulated a comprehensive plan to develop all the periphery areas around urban centers with all basic amenities.
The Minister was interacting with the people after launching development works , including up-gradation of link road at Gangyal and lanes at Hajipura Basti in Nai Basti.
Mr. Bhalla said the Government has earmarked Rs. 23.50 lakh for timely completion of the works launched today in the localities. He said that aim of Government was to develop every corner of the State with all civic amenities like safe drinking water, power, road connectivity, education, healthcare besides better lanes and drains.
For improving the drinking water facilities in Gangyal, Babliana and Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, the Minister said Government has sanctioned Rs. 3.5 crore under WSS Gangyal for digging deep drill tube well and laying of water supply pipes in the uncovered areas of the localities. He said work on the project is under progress and would be completed within stipulated time frame.
Responding to the demand of locals, Mr. Bhalla said that Government has earmarked Rs. 15 lakh for construction of deep drain and Rs. 2 crore for training the barsati nallah, including construction of edge walls.
Listing the projects completed in Gangyal area, the Minister said the Government has spent Rs. 1.6 crore on development of recreational park along the canal to add to the attraction to the area.
Regarding improvement of power in Gangyal-Babliana area, the Minister said Government has upgraded 6.3 KVA receiving station upto 10 MVA. He called upon the people to use power judiciously and pay power tariff regularly. He said Government was committed to provide un-interrupted power supply to the metered areas of the State.
Mr. Bhalla said that Central Government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for construction of 100-beded hospital on the proposed site in the locality, adding that the work on the hospital would be started soon. He said the Government was keen to equip Government Rajiv Gandhi hospital with all latest facilities like Dialysis, Ultrasound, X-ray, Blood Bank, besides Pathology facilities.
