JAMMU, June 2 : Hindi play “Kabuli Wala” was staged by Sangam Theatre Group (STG), Reasi at open air theatre Ghari Udhampur.
The play based on the story of Rabinder Nath Tagore, was adopted by Rajnesh Gupta and directed by M Akram Khan & assisted by O P Shaker.
Deepak Kumar, Under Secretary was the chief guest while Anuradha Rishi, chief Trusty of Master Sansar Chand Baru Trust presided over the function.
The play was presented in the memory of legend Master Sansar Chand Baru on his 19th death anniversary and the story of the play depicts the morality and simplicity of the characters and revolves around a Pathan named Abdul Rehman mostly known as Kabuli Wala. He comes to sell dry fruits, fortunately he passes by Babu’s house who is a writer where his daughter Mini also resides. The Kabuli Wala creates emotional attachment with Mani. He gives her dry fruit with charm full talking attracts her because he has his own daughter like Mini at his home in Kabul.
Kabuli Wala sells also shawls and blankets etc. He sells some shawls to a shopkeeper on credit under the promise to pay back the money to him on such date. As was the deal, he goes to shopkeeper and demands money. The shopkeeper refused to give him money and also calls him names and insults him. Kabuli Wala becomes angry and could not bear so he stabs him. The shopkeeper dies on sport. The police arrests him and puts him in the jail for 10 years.
After leaving the jail he comes to see Mini. Mani has becomes a young girl she is going to be married. Babu tries to recall her about Kabuli Wala, but she does not recognize him. He feels shocked and begins to weep. Babu gives him some money to go back to his own country. This was the first of its production staged in this part of the region and was highly appreciated by the people of this area.
Those who acted in different roles included, Suraj Narayan as Kabuli Wala, Sandeep Choudary as Babu, Mushtaq Ali as Shopkeeper, Raghvi Sawhney as Mini, Radhika Bhagat as young Girl, Barkha Thakur as Laxmi, Raja Aamir Khan as Inspector, Anshu & Abhishek as Policemen, Vishal as Admi, Neeraj Kumar as Bhola, The lights were designed by Sahil Abrol & Shahrukh Khan, Music by Ashok Kumar, costume by Dr.Anam Khan, Makeup by Rifat Yasmeen, Madam Parveen Akhtar was the production Manager.
