Still elusive migrants’ accommodation

Unlike other effects of terrorism in Kashmir, exodus of Kashmiri Pandits has been the most tragic and painful one. More than three decades of day to day struggles seem not enough for authorities to think seriously to resolve this migration issue. Each and every Government promised the sky but migrants have been left to settle with dust only. With the most hostile conditions prevalent in Kashmir yet some migrants dared to accept the challenge to take up jobs in Kashmir to face terrorism head on under PM Package Employment scheme and be the Indian flag torch bearers. Keeping in view of the safety issues Government at centre on its behalf recommended provision for transit accommodation for these employees to make their stay secure, peaceful and tension free after office hours. It is simply impossible to give security to each individual but definitely security can be provided in secure developed pockets. 6000 of such transit accommodations were approved in 2015, seven years have passed only 1000 are available and rest of the employees are living on rent and vulnerable to terrorist attack keeping in view of target killings going on in valley. Most shocking is the fact that it took 4 years for administration to decide whether transit accommodation has to be built on private or Government land and even after 3 years of decision yet completion of said accommodations are nowhere in sight. On ground, proposed and approved two room tenements have been changed to one room, which is not at all sufficient for a family of four. Visiting Parliamentary committee has rightly been upset over these developments as these PM Package Employees are sitting on dharna for last 225 days and still counting for their relocation outside Kashmir over security issues. Have these transit tenements been complete situation would have been totally different. Nothing is still lost as Government can get these constructions completed on war footing, situation has to diffused and solution lies herewith.
