Mining sites across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and even in the UT of Ladakh continue to be wantonly exploited, the reason being making of quick bucks . Such elements are a stuff made of an entirely different fabric as they are least bothered as to how ruthless and illegal mining activities were laced with repercussions of far reaching consequences on the mineral wealth and ”natural equations” of both the UTs.
Taking a serious view of such a scenario, the Division Bench of the High Court headed by the Chief Justice has directed the Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Department to take action against the violators. Needless to add, Regional Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines has informed the court about such violations taking place rampantly across both the Union Territories. Whether the case be that of forest wealth or mineral wealth , violators and mafia are indulging in illegal activities and have in some cases, patronage of lot many ”insiders” in the absence of which, such activities cannot be carried out so widely. Action must be taken against those mining lessees who jumped the limits and the authority of the permits and sanctions, loss assessed and recovered to send clear message about the issue.
