The 231-page Prem Nath Pardesi’s book entitled “Behta Chirag”, a collection of short stories in Urdu is now available in transcription by Piarey Hatash in Hindi as well.
The original book is dedicated to memory of Padam Shree Prem Nath Sadhu and has 20 short stories in Urdu. Due to its literary merit and substance of short stories the book got immense popularity among the Urdu readership.
Piarey Hatash, eminent writer with credit of nearly 40 books in Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi and even Dogri languages has got transcription of this famous book into Hindi for much wider readership. Now the meritorious work of Prem Nath Pardesi’s short stories will be entertaining the Hindi knowing readers as well.
The short stories in simple language are quite absorbing and instructive with moral values as a result shot to fame among the general public. The new book is well produced and printed. Its language is simple and stylish and it is a good gesture by Piarey Hatash to bring out this Urdu short stories for the Hindi readership. Though it is priced on the higher side but taking into consideration the rising cost of paper, printing and production. The readers will have to bear with it.
Premnath Pardesi was born on April 10, 1910 and died on January 18, 1955. He is first Urdu short story writer in Kashmir valley and authored three books. There are 20 stories in this book under review. He has seen the death of Maqbool Sherwani in 1947 by Tribes (kabalies) of Pakistan. He was moved by short story writer Balraj Sahni who came to see him in Kashmir. He has written so many dramas against Pakistan. The slogan “Hamla Aawar Khabardaar Hum Kashmiri hai Taiyaar” has been aired by Pardesi.
This book has been dedicated to his son Som Nath Sadhu who died in his prime youth only at the age of 42 as Director, Foreign Services, All India Radio. He died on 5th October, 1982 at Delhi. He was the writer of famous popular feature “Zona Dab” which was liked by all Kashmiri people. He was also a short-story writer and a drama playwright. His stories have been translated in so many languages.
The foreword of this book has been written by Sayed Ahtisham Hussain (Urdu writer) and G.M. Sadiq, ex-Chief Minister of J&K State.
Get up of the book is fine and transcripted by famous writer, Piarey Hatash in Hindi. Kashmiri Pandits float their (Earthen lamps) on the pious river of Vitasta (Mitti ke Bane Chirag) which is depicted on its title page.
Second foreword was also been written by famous Urdu Short Story writer Noor Shah who was known to Prem Nath Pardesi and also his son Somnath Sadhu Padam Shree.
