REASI, Apr 29: Aggrieved over no help from the administration to feed them, the migrant labourers locked down in Reasi, today held a strong protest against the district administration.
Ever since the lockdown from March 25 due to Covid-19, these stranded migrant workers have little to feed them or cash to buy rations and other essentials, including medicines. These people are in distress as the relief measures announced by the Government on March 26 are inadequate and taking a long time reaching them.
To highlight their plights, several migrant labour families assembled today Deputy Commissioner’s office where Police did not allow them to meet the concerned officials. Thereafter, these people marched towards Zanana Park Reasi and held a demonstration demanding food kits.
They said that ever since the lockdown was enforced, they were provided only one food kit to each family, which got completely exhausted within a week. “Since then the administration never felt the need to find out how we are living with ration to feed ourselves,” they lamented adding that it was because of some locals that were getting food.
“But how long we will sustain like this. Either Government should allow us to go back to our homes or take care of our needs,” said these labourer while accusing the local administration of biased.
Later, SHO Reasi along with Naib Tehsildar came to the spot and pacified the protesting labourers. The protesters were also assured that their problem would be redress as soon as possible.
