Stranded PoK residents protest on LoC as Pak denies them entry as no ‘Peace Bus’ crosses over

JAMMU:  The stranded residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir today demonstrated on the Line of Control at Chakkan-da-Bagh in Poonch district as Pakistan denied entry to weekly Poonch-Rawlakote ‘Peace Bus’.

“The weekly ‘peace bus’ was denied entry as Pakistan refused to open the gate from their end,” a police spokesman here said.

He said the PoK residents in the bus, returning to their homes after completing stipulated stay on this side held demonstrations.

They wanted the gates to be thrown open by the authorities across the border.

“We have taken up the matter with the officials concerned on the other side and the matter will hopefully be resolved soon,” Tariq Zargar, Deputy Commissioner Poonch said.

He said there were at least 48 PoK residents who were stranded here due to escalation of border tension following which their days of stay were extended.

“In couple of days the matter will be sorted out and for the time being, stranded residents were allowed to stay on this side with their relatives,” said the DC.

The Line of Control is tense due to heavy shelling by Pakistan.

Earlier also the ‘Peace Bus’ and Cross-LoC trade was suspended twice on the border. (AGENCIES)
