BARAMULLA, July 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) vice president and former legislator Ghulam Nabi Monga today urged the party workers to strengthen party at grass-roots level in the region.
In a day-long Congress workers meeting held in Baramulla on Sunday, the participants vowed to strengthen the party at grass- roots level further and decided to hold more such meetings at village and block levels after Eid. The meeting presided over by GN Monga, was attended by senior party leaders Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Karnail Singh, Municipal Corporators – Jasbir Kour, Gurdeep Kour and Misra Bano, Mahila Congress vice president Raja Ji, block president Pattan Abdul Qayoom, block president Rafiabad Bashir Ahmad Bhat and others.
Addressing the meeting Monga urged the party leaders and workers to work tirelessly to strengthen the Congress at grass-roots level and provide a helping hand to common people amid the prevailing COVID-19 crisis.
He said that the Congress was the only party in the country which could counter communal forces. “Congress is the only party that could provide secular, democratic rule in the country. The party fought for India’s independence and the Constitution was framed on the Preamble of a socialist, secular democratic republic,” he pointed out.
Monga also appealed to the Congress high command to give a strong role to veteran party leader and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in affairs of Jammu and Kashmir. “Azad’s contributions to strengthen Congress in J&K are immense. During his less than three-year tenure as CM J&K, Azad took some revolutionary decisions to bring socio-economic transformation back on the rails in the state,” he said.
PCC leader also urged the J&K Administration to release pending wages of thousands of daily-wagers, casual labourers and contractual employees who have been denied the same for the last several months. “Similarly, the payments of contractors withheld for years together must be released before Eid-ul-Azha,” he demanded.
