JAMMU, June 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Urban Local Bodies Cell in charge and JMC councillor, Sanjay Kumar Baru has expressed his satisfaction over the decision of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha for regular monthly interactions with the DDCs, BDCs and Panchayat representatives.
He said LG’s decision will provide and ensure a good platform to Panchayati Raj representatives in three tier system to highlight their genuine problems, ensuring equitable development of their respective areas and also further strengthening the grass root governance in rural areas of JK(UT).
He further praised the LG for significant allocation of funds in the capex budget which is almost double that previous year.
Baru said that after the 73rd and 74th Amendments in Jammu Kashmir (UT), Rural Development Department is making to all out efforts for strengthening participatory democracy by making Panchayati Raj Institutions more empowered, vibrant in true sense by organizing the decision likes “LG Mulakat” but on the other hand our Urban and Local Bodies Department seems in no hurry to take such initiative to empower the Municipal Corporations, Councils and Committees in their respective areas of jurisdiction which are equally important.
Sanjay Baru appealed the LG Manoj Sinha and Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department to come up with some concrete proposals and similar monthly interactions with the elected representatives of Municipal Corporations, Councils and Committees to ensure overall grass root equitable development of UT of J&K.
