Strict enforcement of MCC top priority: DC Jammu

JAMMU, Mar 19: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, today stated that strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) would remain a top-priority of the District Administration.
“Non-violation of the MCC and increasing the voting percentage are the top priorities of the District Administration,” he said, while outlining the schedule of polling for the Jammu Parliamentary Constituency.
According to Vaishya, March 28, 2024 is the date of issuance of a gazetted notification regarding the polls followed by filing of nomination papers on April 4, 2024, withdrawal of the candidatures on April 8, polling on April 26 and declaration of results on June 4, 2024.
Quoting the figures from the projected population of 2024, he said, the total population of Jammu District is 18, 03, 653 of which 11, 78, 431 are voters.
The DC Jammu said there are 18 Assembly Constituencies in Jammu Parliamentary Constituency with 11 of these Constituencies falling in Jammu District, three each in Samba and Reasi Districts and 1 in Rajouri District (Kalakote).
There are 17,68,837 electors according to the DC Jammu in Jammu Parliamentary Constituency where 2416 polling stations have been set up for the voters.
In Jammu District alone, he said, 1488 polling stations, including for the elderly and PwD citizens have been set up to ensure smooth polling.
The DC further stated that 35 teams including the flying squads, static surveillance squads, video surveillance teams, among other squads have also been deployed to ensure that the elections go incidents-free.
Besides appointment of AEROs for monitoring the social media and print media content, the DC said a toll free number 1950 has also been issued by the administration for the smooth conduct of the polls.
