Strike disrupts life in Valley

SRINAGAR, Apr 11: Normal life across Kashmir was disrupted today due to strike called by separatists against the killing of eight civilians in security forces firing on Sunday.
Police and paramilitary security forces were deployed at sensitive places across Kashmir to maintain law and order. Shops, other businesses and educational institutions remained closed and public transport was off the roads for the second consecutive day today.
Some private transport and three wheelers were, however, seen moving on the city roads in the morning.
Security forces today fired teargas to disperse youth protesting against the arrest of two locals in Aripanthan village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

At Charar-e-Sharif in Budgam, vehicle, bearing registration number DL 3C 4061, of PDP leader was torched by unknown persons near Bada Talaow in the area last night. Police have registered a case.
Train services between the Valley and Jammu region’s Banihal town also remained suspended.
Kashmir University has postponed all exams scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Internet services, both on mobile and fixed landline connections, remained suspended for the third day today. However, BSNL broad band services were restored this evening.
Tension in South Kashmir’s Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian districts reduced today after the Election Commission announced deferment of Wednesday’s Poll in Anantnag. Voting for this Lok Sabha constituency by-election will be held on May 25.
