Strike of Patwar Association enters 9th day

JAMMU, July 24: The strike of All Jammu and Kashmir Patwar Association (AJKPA) entered 9th day today. Throughout the State, Patwaries and Girdwars staged dharnas in front of their respective district headquarters against the indifferent attitude of the Government towards their demands.
They alleged that the Government has failed to fulfill the written agreement signed by it on March 5, 2012.
The demands projected by the Association included removal of pay anomalies, stoppage of direct recruitment of Naib Tehsildar, relaxation in PSGA, enhancement of PSC examination chances from four to eight, establishment of departmental inquiry cell, inclusion of staff working in computer centre into ETS promotion quota, transparency in transfer policy, creation of new patwar halqas and construction of Patwarkhanas, patwar training to all settlement assistants and prism-men besides enhancement of their basic pay.
Speaking on the occasion, district secretary, AJKPA, Shabir Ahmed Bhat, announced that the Association has decided to extend the strike upto July 28. He informed the protesters that as per schedule, the mass protests will be held at the district headquarters of Jammu, Rajouri and Doda, adding the activists from district Kathua, Samba, Reasi and Udhampur will protest at Jammu headquarters, district Poonch at district headquarter Rajouri and districts Ramban and Kishtwar at district headquarters Doda. For rest of the days, the activists will hold protests at their respective headquarters, he added.
In Udhampur, Patwaries and Girdwars remained on pen down strike consecutively on 9th day today.
Speaking on the occasion, District president, YP Sharma criticized the State Government for its negligent attitude towards Patwars and Girdwars, as the Government did not offer any talks yet.
General secretary, Jugal Kishore urged all the field staff functionaries to remain united and fight for their rights unless and until the Government accepts their demands.
Meanwhile the provincial president of the Association, Raman Raj Sharma along with other members of the provincial body visited the district Udhampur to have a pulse feeling of the protesters and found that the protesters are determined to take the strike to a logical end.
Patwaries and Girdwars in Kishtwar held protest demonstration in the premises of Deputy Commissioner office, Kishtwar under the chairmanship of Javed Iqbal Khanday.
Due to the strike, several public related works in Revenue Department came to stand still particularly the works of land acquisition got badly affected.
