UDHAMPUR, July 6: Udhampur Town is converting into virtual hell due to the indefinite strike of Safai Karamcharis and casual labours of Municipal Council Udhampur over their demands for the last one week.
Solid waste management and sanitation of the town has completely collapsed and heaps of garbage can be seen scattered here and there. People have appealed the concerned authorities to immediately concede the genuine demands of the Safai Karamcharis.
“Task of Safai Karamcharis is not only essential but also a noble cause and Government should pay Rs 500 per day to the casual labourers till they are regularized,” said Sunil Kumar. He also appealed the authorities to release all pending DA installments under 6th Pay Commission of regular Safai Karamcharis as released in favour of other Government departments to avoid the unavoidable circumstances related with sanitation of the town. According to a local Sumeet Magotra, due to the insanitation of the town dangerous viral diseases can spread in the urban slum in this running rainy season and Government should consider the demands of Safai Karamcharis and casual labors sympathetically to avoid the dire situation.
BJP Udhampur City president Raj Kumar Bucha said that due to the strike of Safai Karamcharis Unions, public at large was suffering a lot and garbage dumps at Salathia Chowk, near Pandav Mandir, Talab Sallian area, near PHE water reserve tank, Barrian, near Shaheedi Smarak and the Office on PMGSY in Adarsh Colony, near CMO Office, TCP Domail, Chabutra and Shiv Nagar areas may causes diseases like Jaundice, hepatitis, Typhoid, Judases, Amboise and Malaria.
He criticized the Government for not implementing their previous decision and agreement which were accepted during a meeting of negotiation with union of Safai Karamcharis. He also criticized the local MLA for his silence over the situation.
Advocate Pankaj Magotra has expressed that the situation is not only dire but it cause several serious diseases. He asked the concerned authorities for required appropriate action to avoid unwanted circumstances.
A businessman of Dabber Chowk area Arun Gupta has expressed that during the present turmoil it is difficult to sit in their business establishments due to bad intolerant smell of waste material.
