RAJOURI, Aug 28: The National Conference (NC) party has found itself at the center of a political storm in Rajouri district following its decision to deny the party mandate to Muzaffar Khan, a respected leader and former judge.
The decision has sparked widespread anger and frustration among the party’s supporters, leading to to strong protests against prominent NC leaders, including Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
Muzaffar Khan, who had been reportedly urged by Dr Farooq Abdullah to resign from his job and prepare for the upcoming elections, expressed deep disappointment over the party’s decision. Khan emphasized the extensive work he has done for the NC in the Rajouri and Poonch regions, only to be overlooked when it came to the party’s ticket allocation.
In response to this setback, Muzaffar Khan led a massive rally at Manjakote today after resigning from the NC, declaring his intention to contest the elections as an Independent candidate. The rally drew large crowds, reflecting the strong support he continues to enjoy among the local population.
The fallout from the party’s decision has led to a major setback for the NC in Thanna Mandi, where hundreds of senior leaders and workers have resigned from the party’s basic membership. The resignations were spearheaded by Shamim Ahmed Mughal, a senior ;eader and Zonal secretary Peer Panchal, alongside other prominent figures including Munshi Khan (Ex-Sarpanch), Haji Karamtullah (Ex-Sarpanch), Hakam Din, Master Maqbool Khan, Haji Maqbool Raina, Mohd Shabir, and many others. These leaders criticized the NC’s leadership for ignoring Muzaffar Khan, whom they described as a dedicated, honest, and committed asset to the party.
Shamim Mughal voiced the collective anger, stating, “We are deeply hurt by the ill-treatment the senior leadership of NC has given us. This party, which once boasted more than 60 MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir, is shrinking day by day. We will give a befitting reply by campaigning in favour of Muzaffar Khan,” he asserted.
