Strong tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, several buildings evacuated

NEW DELHI :  Strong tremors were experienced in the national capital and adjoining areas, after a 7.7 magnitude quake hit the neighbouring Pakistan, forcing people across the city to move out of their homes and offices in panic.
The earthquake was epicentered at Hindukush region,  between 36.5 degrees North Latitude and 70.8 degrees East Longitude.
The focal depth of the quake was measured at 190 km.    As soon as the tremors were experienced at around 1440 hrs, several buildings and establishments were evacuated.    Strong tremors were witnessed across the city, which lasted for nearly a minute. As a result, several high-rise buildings like Sanchar Bhawan, Shastri Bhawan, NITI Aayog and the NDMC building were evacuated.
The Delhi Metro rail services were affected, following the quake. The commuters were seen rushing out of the metro station. As a precautionary measure, the metro was halted for some time.    The fire officials said no damage was so far reported across the city, however, unofficial sources said cracks were seen in some buildings.
