Structures develop cracks in quake

DODA, Sept 9: Several structures including a Government school building have developed cracks due to earthquake here.
The quake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale struck Bhaderwah belt at 12:10 pm today, MeT officials said. Yesterday, at 8.04 am a mild tremor of 4.3 intensity shook Bhaderwah valley. The people rushed out of their houses in fear and took shelter at safer locations.
Reports said that cracks developed in several structures in Gandoh and Bhallesa areas of this district, but the exact situation and loss could not be ascertained yet.
Director MeT, J&K Sonam Lotus said that the epicenter of the earthquake was Latitude 32.9 North and Longitude 76.0 East having depth of 5 Kilometer. He said that the tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh (Chamba) Border region.
Meanwhile, in view of the earthquake tremors that struck the district yesterday and today, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Sagar D Doifode, has issued advisory informing all the educational institutions and the district offices to undertake mock drills for the next two days.
Moreover, the offices and school buildings which have developed cracks and apparently seem unsafe should not be used during these days. Click here to watch video
Besides, all the field officers and officials shall keep abreast their respective district officers regarding day to day position and tents and other temporary safety structures already issued during the last earthquake 2014 should be put to use to avoid any loss of life in case of any expected aftershock under intimation to the control room of the DC office already setup in this regard.
