Struggle to include Gojri in 8th Schedule enters in decisive phase: TRCF

JAMMU, July 29: Saying that the ongoing movement to get the Gojri included in the eighth scheduled of India Constitution enters in the decisive phase, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) today appealed the Gujjar community residing in 12 states of India for a joint and final struggle for national recognition of their mother tongue.
The programme was presided over by noted tribal researcher, Dr Javaid Rahi while prominent writers, poets and intellectuals of Gojri participated in the programme. The event was held to discuss the issues related to Gojri language and its inclusion in the eighth schedule of Indian constitution.
Dr Javaid Rahi in his presidential address said that a joint struggle to get Gojri enlisted in the Constitution is required at National Capital. He urged Gujjar MPs to join hands for their mother tongue projection at centre. He said Gojri being oldest and significant languages of India deserves recognition at National level since long.
He said Gujjars-the main speakers of Gojri, mainly live in 12 States of North-Western India, listed as ST in J&K and Himachal Pradesh and OBC in 10 other states, are fighting vigorously for inclusion of their mother tongue in 8th Schedule of India which is a common feature among Gujjar community belongs to Hindu, Muslim and Sikh religions.
The meeting was informed by the members of Tribal Foundation that for inclusion of Gojri in Indian Constitution Governor NN Vohra and two Chief Ministers of the State from time to time have written separate letters to Union Home Ministry.
A committee of Gujjar activists, senior writers, poets and intellectuals was also constituted and announced on the occasion which will work jointly and meet different dignitaries to address the issues with regard to development of Gojri language and Culture.
