REASI, Jan 24: State unit of Bharatiya Gujjar Mahasabha has alleged that Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the State including Gujjars and Bakerwals are being deprived of the benefits of many Central schemes.
Addressing gathering of the ST community at Chandi Morh shrine in district Reasi today, State president of the sabha, Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal today said that awakening among the members of the community was must for their rights and concessions being accorded to them by the Government. He said Gujjars and Bakerwals have been deprived of the benefits being accorded to them by the Central Government under Tribal Sub-Plan and their funds are being diverted to other sectors.
He pointed out that members of ST community should come forward for the solution of their problems. Mr Poswal said due to non-implementation of schemes for the Gujjars and Bakerwals properly, the condition of many community members was pitiable in most of the districts. On ground level the result was very poor, he added.
Poswal highlighted ignorance of the leaders of various parties who have not gone on the ground level to look into their basic issues of STs and their resolution. He said ST members are only being exploited for the vote bank by some community leaders. He strongly projected the demand of political reservation to the Gujjars and Bakerwals and proper implementation of Tribal Sub Plan in the State.
He was accompanied by Ghulam Hassan Chasana and Nazir Ahmed, senior members of the mahasabha.
