Student killed, 12 hurt in mishap

JAMMU, Aug 10: A student of class 6th was killed while 12 others were injured, four of them critically, when a school bus carrying them skidded off the road and plunged into a nallah in Bishnah area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, the mishap occurred today at about 6.45 am near village Banachak, when a bus (bearing registration number JK02D-1545) of RKS Girls Higher Secondary School, Bishnah, was carrying the students to school.
The mishap occurred apparently due to rash driving, the spokesman said and informed that a class 6th student identified as Khushboo (11) daughter of Ashok Kumar, resident of Chakra was killed on the spot while 12 others received injuries, four of them critical.
On getting information of the mishap, the locals reached the spot and started rescue operation. They were later joined by a police team of police station Bishnah headed by SHO, Inspector Paramjeet Singh.
All the injured as well as body of the deceased were shifted to Government Hospital, Bishnah, from where nine injured students were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu while others were discharged after providing first aid. The body of the deceased girl was also handed over to her legal heirs for last rites after completing all medico-legal formalities.
Those referred to GMCH Jammu were Niharika (5) daughter of Hardev, resident of Smailpur, Meena Sharma (14) daughter of Roop Chand, resident of Fatwal, Nitika (12) daughter of Pappu Kumar, resident of Kheri, Surekha Saini (18) daughter of Sarwan Dass, resident of Bishnah, Urvashi (10) and Rashika (14) both daughters of Rajesh, residents of Rehal, Muskan Gupta (14) daughter of Gogi Gupta of Bishnah, Madhu Sharma (16) daughter of Nand Lal, resident of Bishnah and Isha Choudhary (12) daughter of Bahadur Lal, resident of Shahpur.
A case in this connection was registered at police station Bishnah and further investigation was underway. Efforts were also on to nab the driver and conductor of the school bus, who were absconding.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, ordered a Magisterial inquiry into the mishap to be conducted by Sub-District Magistrate, South.
