Student protests fading , 95% attendance recorded: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: IGP Kashmir said the  incidents of student violence have   been largely brought under control as about 90 percent attendance has been recorded in colleges and schools across the Kashmir valley. He said terrorists of LeT and HM outfits are involved in bank robbery

IGP SJM Geelani, addressing media, said  attempts are being made by certain forces to spread student protests   in new areas and  disturb normal student activities.

“ During inquiry of the Handwara incident  it was revealed that  students were  instigated by outsiders. Some arrests have also been made. It was also established that some students were paid to indulge in stone pelting,” said the IGP.

He said   student protests started at Government Degree College Pulwama, on April 15  where  students pelted stones at police personnel and also attacked private vehicle. The protests then spread to other areas but they have been largely brought under control .

IGP said incidents of bank robbery   started last October and in last one  week  two banks looting incidents were reported from Pulwama.

“The terrorists of HM and LeT outfits are involved in it. It was been established by the CCTV footage and also on the basis of information provided by the bank employees,”said the IGP.

He said foreign terrorist Abu Ali involved in bank robbery was killed last week. IGP said about 200 terrorists are active in the valley, including 110 locals,  and it’s the same number which was there last year also.
