Students back in schools

Satish Singh Manhas
The opening of school for all classes from Monday, the 21st February is seen by parents, teachers, students, commuters and transporters as a welcome step and a big relief. On Monday morning the first day of opening, everybody was seen in a positive and activated mood. Some parents waited on stops to help see off or board their kids to schools, some even personally went to drop. In the school premises the students were seen in a total joyful mood like they were at a fair. No homework or other assignments tension was seen on their faces, they had only one thing in mind that thank God, schools are open and we are going to meet our friends, classmates after a long impatient but imposed wait for over two years. Many commoners while passing from outside the schools enjoyed students especially the girls in a joyous and celebrative mood, hugging each other, greeting etc. This eagerness is a rare happening.
Curse the dastardly corona for locking the innocent kids within four walls for over two years. The parents were tired and suffocated to handle the kids at home. Thanks the Government , they heave a sigh of relief after a long. Teachers were suffocated to deliver through online mode which has been practically a mere formality like “look busy and do nothing” a police training shramdan rule. At last everybody is free, although unpredictable for how long as has been the past experience of two most difficult years. But it is being welcomed by all as a new dawn.
Some students were seen seeking lift for school from two wheelers etc. It was like a hustle bustle in the morning of 21st February but in eagerness and enjoyment. Some higher secondary level students were seen trippling on their scooties and motor cycles. For the first time the commuters were seen patient and non complaining in traffic jam knowing well that this day has come after a wait for two years. But all this has happened because of the extra efforts of our scientists who worked day and night to produce such an effective and abundant quantity of vaccine that today we are a nation with more than 150 crore doses almost equal to the entire Europe. Our Central Government, which provided all the support for the development of effective vaccines in the shortest possible time to meet the requirement of such a large nation deserves an equal applaud. All performed their duty sincerely during corona be that a government, the public, corona warriors etc.
Now since schools throughout the country are almost open, this is a good news for us all, but it also lays the responsibility upon us to take the necessary precautions so that we are not pushed to the trouble again. So every parent, every school going kid, every member of school management is needed to be extra cautious so that the school opened once remains for all permanently. Although this is a happy news for us all, still corona has not completely vanished so “josh me hosh” is very necessary. The credit for opening of the schools goes to the pro active approach of the Government, its sensitivity towards the career of the buds, our nation’s future but it carries along with a responsibility as well. Uniformed students seen on every chowk is a feeling like something new and rare has happened in the city as the uniformed kids were seen shining like stars in the thick gatherings because seeing uniformed kids has almost been forgotten by everyone.
Such blooming buds coming on the roads, in the streets, rushing towards their vehicle is just like a children’s fare, a park visit feeling or like a picnic spot feeling in front of the schools foreveryone. If we want it to continue unhindered ,Let’s all cooperate and pray that now onwards God saves us all from this trap. But masking, vaccination is not to be skipped and schools have all responsibility to enforce the sops if any in place strictly. Any complacency can bring us bad news and one bad news will become propaganda or a hoax which can spoil the game. Also relying on whatsapp or social media news even electronic media should be given least priority and government updates on corona and reliable newspapers should be the priority for the fresh updates.
That may save us all from unnecessary panic. Because affecting one student means a panic for the entire state or even at a national level. So beware schools, from any laxity. Total change in the face of the city at least for the first day morning.
