KATHUA, Sept 14: The students of Government High School, Janu of tehsil Basholi blocked the Bani-Basholi road at Sheetal Nagar for two hours and raised strong protest against the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kathua, PL Thappa, ZEO Basholi and Education Department for their failure to fill up the vacant posts of teachers in the school.
The protest was supported by PRI members and villagers sat blocked the road at Sheetal Nagar after walking five kilometer on foot.
They were raising anti CEO, ZEO and Education Department slogans.
They were demanding the fulfillment of vacant post of teachers as the students are suffering a lot to continue study in such far-flung area. The villagers Mustaq Ahmed and Veena Devi said that there are only six teachers against nineteen posts of teachers in Government High School Janu having thick attendance of students drawn from far-off areas. Now the Chief Education Officer, Kathua, PL Thappa has transferred two more teachers from the school and were they relieved without posting teachers in their place.
They questioned that in such circumstances how could the poor children get education without teachers in the school. They said highly approached teacher was transferred one month earlier from the school.
They said the transfer policy is mockery in Education Department and poor people belonging to far-off areas are crying for teachers. They alleged that there is highest number of teachers in Basholi, Kathua like urban areas against five to ten students only. But the hilly area schools where the roll is good are without teachers.
The ZEO Basholi also reached on spot to listen the grievances of students. He assured them that teacher will be posted soon.
The protesters dispersed and traffic movement was restored on the road. However they warned that in case the vacant posts were not filled soon they would again launch protest.
