MENDHAR, Sept 4: The students of class 9th and 10th of Government High School, Jaran Wali Gali, today blocked Mendhar-Surankote road at Jaran Wali Gali to protest against the non-availability of mathematics teacher in the School for last four years.
The students who were accompanied by their parents and other locals blocked the aforesaid road for about two hours (9am to 11am) and disrupted the traffic movement. The protesting students raised slogans against the Chief Education Officer, Poonch, Director School Education Officer, Jammu and Education Minister, Tara Chand.
The protesting students alleged that in the absence of mathematics teacher, many students of the school have failed in the subject during last four years but the authorities have shown no concern with it. Knowing everything, they have just closed their eyes and failed to arrange a mathematics teacher for the School having a good strength of 320 students.
One of the parents of the protesting students said that three posts of general line teachers and one Master grade post are also vacant in the school. Though three Master grade posts have been filled by attaching three female masters but they remain absent from the School and only come to draw their salaries.
State general secretary, PDP, Nadeem Ahmed Khan, who was on the visit of the area, visited the spot, listened the protesting students and their parents. He immediately talked to DC Poonch on phone and apprised him about the issue. He also apprised him about the poor condition of education in Zone Balakote and Zone Mendhar.
SHO Gursai, Inspector MA Mirza, tried to pacify the protesting students but all in vain. The students suspended their protest and cleared the road when Deputy Education Officer, Mendhar, Mohd Sadiq Chowdhary visited the spot at about 11 am and assured the protesters that he will take up the issue with the higher authorities to redress it as early as possible.
