JAMMU, Nov 2: A four day industrial tour was organized for final year students of B. Tech. (IBT) & M. Sc. (Biotechnology) to understand the initiatives and operations of M/s. Dabur Industries Ltd, Ghaziabad.
Dr. Sarvepalli Badari Narayan, DGM and Mr. Aman, RA, Dabur Industries executed the visit wherein the students had an opportunity to interact with scientists & technicians of various laboratories of the Unit: Quality Control, Herbarium, Greenhouse, Tissue Culture; production and R&D sections: Cosmetics, Hair Care, Health Care, Home Care, Dental Care, etc.
The students and accompanying faculty members also had the opportunity to attend a one-day national seminar on Emerging Trends in Biotechnological Research (ETBR)-2012 at Department of Biotechnology, Mewar Institute of Management (affiliated to CCS University, Meerut), Ghaziabad, UP; where in they presented papers.
The whole event turned out to be a grand success for the university owing to the willingness and support of Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. V. Verma Director, School of Biotechnology as well as the motivation of Dr. Sharada Potukuchi & Dr. Indu Bhushan, Asst. Professors, Biotechnology. Ms. Palak Arora final year B. Tech. student bagged the 2nd prize for Poster presentation titled: “Development of a recombination assay system of Antarctic Pseudomonas syringae” based on her Summer Training Project work carried out at CCMB, Hyderabad. Dr. Sharada Potukuchi, Asst. Prof., SMVDU was awarded the 2nd prize in the Oral presentation category for her paper titled: “Influence of Support Matrix on in Vitro Shoot Proliferation of Bacopa Monnieri (L.) Wettst. enriched with bacoside accumulation” which is a part of the Ph.D. work of her student Munish Sharma done in collaboration with Dr. A. Ahuja & Dr. R.K. Khajuria, Scientists from CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.
