Students, locals protest for repair of Sounthan road

UDHAMPUR, Feb 4: Agitated over worst condition of village Sounthan road near Railway bridge number 43, students and locals held a strong protest at village Sounthan against the Public Works Department authorities, here today.
The protesting locals blocked the road and raised slogans against the PWD and District administration for their failure to repair the road in last five year. They were demanding immediate repair and black topping of the road.
According to one of the protesters, namely Sudesh Kumar Sharma, the work on Railway bridge number 43 was started around 15 years back and completed but the road damaged in this process was not repaired till date despite various representations to the Railway Department.
“PWD authorities were also informed about the bad condition of road several times but no action was taken,” they said adding that the school going children have to face a lot of difficulties while it becomes extremely difficult for sick and elderly people to walk on the this road.
Some locals of village Sounthan and adjoining area also joined the protest and threatened an indefinite protest till the road is repaired. The protesting people were addressed by Suram Chand, Raj Kumar, Anil Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Ajay Singh, and Makhana Devi.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commis-sion Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar said that he had deputed a team of PWD to find out the reason behind delay in repair of the road and assured that he would take necessary action in this regard.
