LEH, Jan 12: Demanding 6th Schedule for the Union Territory of Ladakh for its safeguard, various Students Organisations under the banner of Students Organization of Unified Ladakh (SOUL) supported by various village Nambardars, Sarpanches and public held a peaceful mass procession here today.
The student had been sitting on protest Dharna in a tented camp at Old Bus Stand here to demand safeguard for Ladakh. The first of its kind unique peaceful procession singing folk song with music started from NDS Ground and culminated at Balkhang Chowk Main Bazaar where students exhibited a skit to sensitize the people about the importance of 6th schedule for Ladakh as its safeguards.
During the protest some of Ladakhi famous folk singers sung traditional folk song with traditional with Ladakhi traditional music Daman and Surna.
Addressing the gathering, President SOUL Rigzen Dorjay questioned the silence of Ladakh MP Jamyang Tseing Namgyal and other religious organizations in Ladakh.
SOUL Vice President Ibtesum Iqbal, SOUL General Secretary Anis-UL-Rehman,
SOULAdvisor Stanzin Tsetan, Nubra Student leaders and LEAF Coordinator Thinley Nubu also addressed the gathering.
All speakers stressed for the need 6th Schedule as the best safeguard options for Ladakh. An anthem (song) on 6th Schedule composed by SOUL President Rigzin Dorjay was also released on the occasion.
When asked about folk music and song during the peace procession, SOUL Advisor Stanzin Tsetan said that the folk song (Junglu) is not only a mare song but its important component of rich culture and heritage of Ladakh which is way they wants to convey a message to save the rich culture and tradition of this region.
He asserted the need for a safeguard of 6th Schedule for the preservation of unique language and culture, environment, heritage and job reservation.
As per a press handout from SOUL, the students will also resume their chain hunger strike from Tuesday to demand 6th Schedule for Ladakh.
