Students, others protest against enhanced duration of B Ed/M Ed courses

UDHAMPUR, July 1:  Students and faculty members of Colleges of Education in Udhampur organized a protest dharna against the decision of the Government and University of Jammu to enhance the duration of B Ed/M Ed Courses from one year to two years.
The protesting students were demanding that the duration of B Ed/M Ed courses should be kept at same level both in respect of University of Jammu and Kashmir University.
JKNPP president and former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, S Harbans Singh, president of the Forum of Recognized Colleges of Education (FORCE) along with other members of FORCE participated in the protest demonstration.
While addressing the protesters, Harbans Singh demanded that this senseless decision of the Government against the interest of Jammu province students and colleges should be withdrawn forthwith or be ready to face the consequences. He said that besides affecting the career and future of the students, the Government move will adversely affect the employment of large number of teaching and non-teaching members who are serving in these Colleges.
G S Charak, former Minister and president of Dogra Sadar Sabha, alleged that there was a deep rooted conspiracy of the State Government to divide the student community on the regional lines which would be quite dangerous to the unity of both the regions of the State.
R S Chib, former Minister and patron FORCE appealed all political and social organizations to come forward and support the movement launched by the FORCE in order to safe guard the interests and future of the student community of Jammu province.
Balwant Singh Mankotia, former MLA Udhampur and president of JKNPP condemned the decision of the Government for raising the duration of B Ed/M Ed course in respect of colleges in Jammu division as compared to the Colleges located in Kashmir province. He assured full support of JKNPP to the FORCE and said that the Panthers Party will be ready to make any sacrifice in the interests of student community in Jammu province.
