BHADERWAH, June 1: The students of Government Degree College and Government Girls Higher Secondary School held protest on Jai road and disrupted traffic movement for about two hours here today.
Amid slogans, large number of students hailing from Manthla, Chinta, Bhalra, Kapra, Chinchora and Khalu villages of Bhadarwah came out on the road and started demonstration against administration and transporters.
They blocked Bhaderwah-Jai road and stalled the traffic movement. They were protesting against overcharging of fare from them by the transporters.
They alleged that students traveling in mini buses, sumos and buses are not giving them student’s concession and forcibly de-boarded from the vehicles. The female students are also harassed, misbehaved and made to pay full fare by the transporters, they added.
They warned the administration to intervene and solve the issue otherwise they will block all the roads and stall the traffic movement.
During the protest, large number of vehicles got stranded on the road.
After getting information, Executive Magistrate Bhaderwah Masood Ahmed along with police team reached the spot and pacified the agitating students and assured to look into their grievances and resolve the issue.
“This is a very serious issue and future of our students coming from far off villages for studies is at stake. This behavior of transporters and operators cannot be tolerated”, Executive Magistrate Masood Ahmed said.
“I gave strict warning to transport operators and if any one found guilty of misbehaving or overcharging, stern action will be taken and their license will be seized”, he said, adding that a special bus for students will also be deployed from tomorrow.
On the assurance, the students dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
