RAJOURI, Aug 18: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) students held strong protest demonstration near the main gate of the Varsity and demanded change of all the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by District police as it has failed to properly investigate the case related to scholarship scam worth lakhs.
The students of the University on the 10th consecutive day of their protest, today again boycotted their classes and took out protest rally on the campus. Shouting slogans against Police and State Government besides Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed, the students alleged that big sharks are being protected by the District police and a local Minister from Rajouri.
SDPO Thannamandi, Iftikhar Talib is heading the SIT and two other police officers are assisting him. Even after two months, the SIT has failed to reach the logical conclusion. Only clerical staff members were grilled and detained for investigation while the big sharks involved in the scandal and even those who had signed the scholarship cheques were allowed to go scot free. They said that this university has been raised on the public donations from Shahdara Sharief Ziarat. The Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed had taken keen initiative in raising this Institution of learning but it is unfortunate that due to political pressure from his own party people, the investigations is being scuttled.
The students said that they had no trust on the present SIT team and DGP should appoint an officer of SSP rank from Crime or Vigilance wing to hold proper investigation and expose the entire scandal. They also demanded complete audit of CD- 2 and SOD-1 accounts since 2009, removal of sitting Registrar Rashid Choudhary from the chair as he is the DDO of the office where the embezzlement took place and provide regular scholarship to the students. After holding protest for over three hours the students dispersed.
