RAJOURI, Apr 13: The students of Government Degree College, Kotranka, in Rajouri district, took to the streets to protest against the high-handedness and arbitrary fair collection by the drivers of public transport.
The protesting students blocked Rajouri- Budhal road and shouted slogans against the transport department and the vehicle operators, alleging that the drivers charge the same fare from them as is charged from the general passengers, while school- college students are charged half the fare.
Angry students told that the drivers do not allow the college students to sit in their vehicles and the precious time of the students is spent waiting for the vehicles on the roadside for long. This causes the trouble to the girl students who have to wait for hours for the vehicles and either they cannot reach the college on time or they cannot reach back home on time.
The protesting students said that not only this, the drivers and co-drivers misbehave and abuse the students, but in any case they charge the full fare, which is a great injustice to the students. After about 2 hours of protest, Tehsildar Sumit Kohli reached the spot and talked to the protesting students and assured them that he would resolve the issue.
