UDHAMPUR, June 27: Up in arms against Power Development Department and the Government, students and locals of two Panchayats in Pancheri held a protest demonstration, here today.
The protesters also blocked the road of Panchayat Lower Mir and Gulha Ban amidst raising of slogans against the Government.
They lamented that people of these two Panchayats are without electricity even after 69 years since Independence and there has been no progress on the ground despite allocation of funds for the same by the Centre a few years ago.
In absence of electricity, these villagers are totally dependent on kerosene lamps during the night hours and their children have to limit their studies during day light only.
The villagers said that they submitted several applications to the State Government departments and concerned officials to cover their village under electricity supply schemes by the State and Central Government but there was no action.
