85-yr-old man, 2 others treated at CD Hospital

JAMMU, May 16: Jammu today again recorded single day highest number of Corona positive cases of 23 including four females, all of whom were stranded persons returning from trains and buses and their contacts, taking number of total cases in the region to 145 and active cases to 83, while three Corona patients including an 85-year old man with comorbidity were treated and discharged from the Chest Diseases Hospital.
Kathua recorded highest number of 11 cases today followed by six in Ramban, two each in Jammu and Samba and one each in Udhampur and Poonch. This was the first COVID-19 positive case in Poonch district.

Late tonight, two persons from Bishnah tehsil of Jammu district including a female, who had returned from New Delhi, tested positive for COVID-19. Two persons from Samba district, one of them a female student, also tested positive. Another person hailing from Udhampur was tested Corona positive late in the night.
All late night five Corona positive reports were confirmed in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
Teams have been sent to shift all five to hospitals from quarantine centres, who were asymptomatic.
District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat told the Excelsior that 11 persons from the district, who had returned from different parts of the country and were under administrative quarantine at different places, have tested positive for Coronavirus today.
“All of the positive cases have been identified and are being sent to the hospitals from different quarantine centres,” Bhagat said, adding all of them are asymptomatic. Their contacts are being traced for isolation and sample testing.
Of 11 Kathua positives, four hailed from Basohli and had travel history of Gujarat and New Delhi while 28-year old woman belonged to Rajbagh and had travel history to New Delhi. Two persons with travel history of Haryana including Gurugram belonged to Nagri and Dinga Amb.
A 35-year old male, 15-year old girl and 17-year old boy from Bhatoda, Duggan and Sukrala areas, who have tested positive for COVID-19, are contacts of positive patients while a boy from Hiranagar, who had returned from Ludhiana, has also tested positive.
The Command Hospital Udhampur today detected six more Corona positive cases, all hailing from Ramban district of Jammu region, Lt Col Inam Danish Khan, Classified Specialist Microbiology, in the Hospital told the Excelsior.
Lt Col Khan said the Command Hospital has surpassed 10,000 Corona tests. Of them, 100 have tested positive so far.
All six positive cases of Ramban district were returnees from different States who were under administrative quarantine.
Thirteen Corona positive cases were reported in Ramban district yesterday and three a day before. Ramban now has 22 active cases in the total of 23.
Poonch district today reported first Corona positive case with 35 year old male worker of Hari Marhot, Surankote, who had returned from Himachal Pradesh, testing positive. He was under quarantine at Surankote, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
Now, only Kishtwar and Doda districts are without any Corona case.
With surge in Corona positive cases in Ramban, District Magistrate ordered closure of shops selling non-essential items which had earlier been allowed to open on rotation basis.
Today’s 23 Corona positive cases have taken Jammu region’s tally to 145 and active cases to 83 as three Corona patients were treated and discharged today from the Chest Diseases Hospital, Bakshi Nagar Jammu.
HoD Chest Diseases Dr Rahul Gupta told the Excelsior that an 85-year old Corona patient from Ashok Nagar, Satwari in Jammu district was among the three persons discharged today from the hospital.
The patient with comorbidity has been successfully treated and discharged after he tested negative for the virus twice and passed all other tests, Dr Gupta said.
CD Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said a 32-year old man from Ghagwal in Samba district and 40-year old man from Sola, Samba, were also discharged today after being successfully treated for Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, all high risk contacts of a Reasi Municipality frontline worker, who had recently tested Corona positive, have been tested negative. They included Councilors of the Reasi Municipality.
Meanwhile, around 2050 stranded persons of Jammu and Kashmir reached Udhampur Railway Station today in two `Sharamik Special’ trains from Nagpur in Maharashtra and Bengaluru in Karnataka. While 1027 persons travelled from Nagpur, rest came from Bengaluru, District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior.
All of them were sent to their respective district headquarters for administrative quarantine and sample testing. Samples of people of some districts were taken at Chenani.
Another train today left Chennai in Tamil Nadu for Udhampur carrying stranded persons of Jammu and Kashmir while another train is scheduled to run from Bengaluru on May 17 carrying the UT inhabitants.
Meanwhile, third commercial train from New Delhi reached Jammu this morning carrying 952 passengers.
An official statement said 52396 people have returned to Jammu and Kashmir through Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, so far in the buses including 3178 people who came during past 24 hours.
Besides, the daily truck arrival carrying raw and construction material has crossed 2100 with total 61651 trucks entering Jammu and Kashmir since lockdown, a clear indication of economic activities showing increasing trend in Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the station Director, Railways, Jammu, Chetan Taneja has come up with certain instructions and precautionary measures to be taken by the general public and the passengers who are reaching Jammu by New Delhi-JammuTawi special `Sharamik passenger trains and also those passengers who are boarding the special train at Jammu.
Taneja said that the passengers have been strictly asked to cover their face with mask, follow social distancing norms and not to hurry while reaching the station. He further said that the passengers must follow the instructions of the Railways officials and the UT Government employees who have been assigned with the duty of guiding the passengers during de-boarding.
“The passengers are requested not to open the doors of the train and not to stand or sit besides the door while travelling, washing or sanitising their hands, download “Aarogya Setu” app, and not to call family members, relatives or friends to the Station. The transportation facilities for the passengers have already been arranged by the UT Government,” he said.
Giving details of the precautions for the outgoing passengers from Jammu, Taneja said that only those passengers having confirmed tickets for the day’s journey will be allowed entry at the station as the confirmed ticket will be their movement pass to the station.
