JAMMU, Aug 8: In a significant development, a 95 year old lady was operated successfully for hip surgery at IVY Hospital, Amritsar.
Dr Summit Mahajan, Director Orthopaedics, while briefing about the case informed that Kulwant Kaur from Amritsar had a fall, after which she had a fracture of the right hip. She is also suffering from rare muscular disorder known as myasthenia gravis.
“During this COVID scenario and because of her age, her surgery was denied by all major hospitals of Amritsar. With the advancement in the minimal invasive surgical techniques, geriatric anesthesia, lesser blood loss, surgery in these patients is possible,” said Dr Summit. He added that such meticulous management requires 24×7 multi-specialty back up.
He said that the patient was not only successfully operated in the IVY Hospital but also made to stand with the help of walker, next day after the surgery and was discharged within 3 days.
