SUF highlights demands

JAMMU, Nov 27: All J&K Sikh Unity Forum today appealed the State Government to mitigate the long pending demands of Sikh minority community of the State.
In a meeting held here, convener of the Forum, Rajinder Singh, said that the Sikh community of the State has always been neglected by successive Governments of the State since 1947.
He alleged that the Government has completely failed to implement Ansari Commission reports of 1980 riots in Jammu and asserted for immediate implementation of the report and punishing the guilty.
Various speakers pointed out the alleged discrimination by the State Government with the Sikh community since independence of the Country, quoting that recently the Government recommended appointment of six more judges of High Court but ignored the sikh candidates.
The Forum members demanded to regularize Punjabi subject in Government schools to create job opportunity to Sikh community in the State.
Other demands highlighted by the Forum included increase in OBC quota of Sikh Labana Biradri to 5% instead of 2%, representation to Sikh candidate in public service commission, declaration of transport sector as industry, special recruitment rallies for Sikh youths, permanent settlement of 1947 (PoK) 1965 and 1971 refugees by giving Rs 50 lakh to each family, special funds for development of Sikh refugee bastis etc.
Besides, the Forum stressed the Government to take up the matter of permission of visa to PoK for Sikhs, with the Central Government.
