JAMMU, Feb 17: The 10th annual edition of SaMaPa Aalap Festival on day 2 featured the daughter of the soil and the young Sufi diva of the country Ragini Rainu joined by Aman Nath and Chanchal Singh at Army Public School, Ratnuchak.
The festival is being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with Department of Tourism, Jammu, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Department of Information & Public Relations, J&K.
Ragini is the disciple of the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori. She is known for her presentations which have a strong base of classical singing embedded with fluency, aesthetics and expressions. She presented various Sufi qualams composed by her Guru Pt Bhajan Sopori commencing her performance with Baba Farid’s qualam “Jindade Lute Te Yaar” followed by Baba Bulle Shah’s qualams “Ooth Challe” and “O Ranjha Jogiya”.
She concluded her performance with the traditional Sufi composition “Damadam Mast Qulandar”. Ragini also introduced the concept of Sufism as a musical thought and a philosophy. She said that Sufism is the soulful link between the man and the God. Ragini was joined by Aman Nath on Keyboard and electronics and Chanchal Singh on Tabla.
Earlier the programme commenced with the traditional Lamp lighting ceremony by Aparna Bhajan Sopori, music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori, Sonal Sharma, Principal of the school and the performing musicians.
On the occasion, music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori highlighted SaMaPa’s initiatives and activities in J&K. He said since 2005 many path breaking festivals and events have been conducted to revive the cultural scenario of the State. He spoke to the children and asked them to participate in all cultural activities and make music as a full time interest.
The festival on February 18 will feature Mohan Veena recital by Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt at 11 am at KC Public School and later at 4:30 pm at the Police HQ Auditorium featuring Santoor recital by Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Abhay Rustum Sopori.
