Sufi singers enthral audience at K L Saigal Hall

JAMMU, Mar 20: A first of its kind Sufi musical evening organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, young and budding Sufi singers left audience spell-bound for more than two hours in a Jam-packed K L Saigal Hall here this evening.
The program was aimed at providing opportunities to the debut Sufi singers of the State.
First, the upcoming Manjeet Kumar and Anil Kumar duo from Miran Sahib and then singer Anmol Jaswal from Jammu enthralled the audience with their classical Sufi singing.
Other upcoming and budding singers who mesmerized the audience with their powerful renditions of the Sufi poetry included Sunali Dogra, Mehran Shah, Zulekha Farid and Anju Shah.
Upcoming singer – Sonali Dogra, started with Kalam Bulle Shah (Muslim Saint)… Saaday Beday Aaya Kar Yaar Sajna …, that attracted lots of applauds from the audience.
Another budding singer – Anjushah, sang Sanam Malvi’s Mera Tumba Bajda…, which was well received by the audience with thundering rounds of applause.
Apart from singing the poetry of Bulle Shah, the budding singers also sang the verses of legendary Sufi versifiers like Mian Mohammed Baksh and Busha Ali Kalandar.
Chief guest, Vijay Lakshmi, former principal, Government Women’s College, Parade, appreciated the role of Academy in providing platform to the budding Sufi singers.
Besides other dignitaries, Secretary Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, Director Doordarshan Jammu, Shabir Mujahid, Sham Talib, Rajinder Singh Raina and Shamsher Singh Chawalvi were also present.
