Sugar futures weaken on subdued demand, ample supply

NEW DELHI, Dec 18: Amid subdued demand and higher supplies in the physical markets, sugar prices fell by Rs 21 per quintal to Rs 3,182 in futures trade today.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in December declined by Rs 21, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 3,182 per quintal, with an open interest of 4,010 lots.
The sweetener for delivery in January also shed Rs 15, or 0.46 per cent to Rs 3,276 per quintal, in an open interest of 30,760 lots.
Marketmen said fall in sugar futures prices was mostly due to reduced offtake by bulk consumers as demand usually declines during the winter season amid ample supply in the spot markets. (PTI)
