SAMBA, May 26: In the ongoing COVID pandemic situation, every small and big business is suffering, but the worst sufferers are those, who cultivate sugarcane.
The ongoing lockdown imposed in wake of pandemic has forced some cloth merchants to sell vegetables, while shoe sellers are selling sanitizers and masks for survival.
The sugarcane growers in district samba are deeply troubled by the lockdown. There are around 20 farmers, who after cultivating their crops, sell sugarcane juice in Samba city for survival.
“All the business establishments are closed due to the lockdown. Farmers business of selling sugar cane juice is also stalled, which has created manifold problems for them”, Karan Singh, a farmer of village Madakoli in Samba said.
After cultivating sugarcane on my 6 kanals land, I use to sell its juice in Samba market for survival of my family, Singh said, adding that this lockdown has broken the backbone of all the small farmers like us.
“If the lockdown does not open in time, then all farmers will not be happy and will not doc cultivation of sugarcane in future”, he added.
At the same time, Bansi Lal, a resident of village Pulla, who sells sugarcane juice in the Samba city, said that last year the lockdown ruined us and this time also our businesses are not opening.
“We pray to God everyday that people should get rid of this pandemic as soon as possible so that all the people can do their jobs or businesses”, he added.
“Due to non-availability of sugarcane factory in the Jammu and Kashmir, the farmers, who cultivate sugarcane, are facing immense problems. Opening of sugarcane mill is the need of the hour to save the cultivators of sugarcane”, Sagar Singh, a farmer of Jalapar village in Sumb block of district Samba said.
