JAMMU, Nov 17: Sukhdev Singh of NSF has been elected as new president of Jammu University Research
Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA), elections of which were held today.
Defeating ABVP supported candidates, the NSF captured all the JURSEA positions, except the post of organizing secretary, which was declared by draw of lots as both the contestants secured equal number of votes.
Jyoti Bala was declared elected as vice-president, Sunny Babber as general secretary, Manzoor Ahmed as joint secretary and Gopal Singh as treasurer.
There was a tie between Syed Shehna and  Dalip Singh for the post of organizing secretary following which a draw of lots was held, in which the latter was declared winner.
NSF president Sukhdev Singh, who is a scholar of Urdu Department, defeated his nearest rival Lakvinder Singh of ABVP by a margin of six vote and emerged winner as new JURSEA president. In a  triangular contest for the post, Sukhdev Singh secured 17 votes while  Lakvinder Singh  of ABVP and Ravinder Singh of National Conference  were polled 11 and four votes, respectively.
Pertinent to mention that the JURSEA office bearers are elected by Department Representatives (DRs) through secret voting. There are  total 32 Departments in Jammu University and all the DRs took part in the election, which was  held under the supervision of Dean Students Welfare Prof Pankaj Shrivastav.
