JAMMU, July 26: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Shukhnandan Kumar Choudhary, today inaugurated Multi Hazard safe IAY Model K1 house in village Chatha Gujjaran in Marh block and formally handed it over to Kunti Devi and Garu Ram of Chatha Gujjaran in Marh, here.
The Minister said that Multi Hazard safe IAY Model K1 house is stronger than normal houses and total construction time on the site is 7 working days and it covers an area of about 300 sq ft. He directed the executing agencies and concerned authorities to construct another 6 houses under IAY for the beneficiaries of the area.
Regional & Urban Development Agency (RUDA) has provided technical support in construction of the house which has a special roof frame which can withstand any type of earthquake or high speed wind.
The Minister appreciating role of SDM Marh, said that he had been instrumental in inviting Kirat Dave, Senior Architect and designer from Kutch , Gujarat who has an expertise in developing such Model K1 houses.
Minister said that safe housing design such as Model K1 type needs to be promoted in Jammu so that there are reduced casualties in case of any earthquake, high speed wind or cloudburst.
The Minister said that large number of houses which collapsed during the heavy rains in 2014 floods was primarily due to lack of proper structural construction practices, which has been tried to overcome in the present design, adding that it is also easy to build and replicate in hilly areas.
On this occasion, Director Rural Development, Jammu M.L Raina, SDM Marh, Hitesh Gupta, ACD Jammu Showkat Mehmood Malik, BDO Marh, Ranjeet Singh, SDPO Domana S.K Sharma, President J&K NGO Federation Vinay Katal, Sarpanch Harjit Singh were present .
