Sukhnandan inspects work on Tawi barrage

JAMMU, Dec 1: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sukhnandan Kumar today inspected the construction work of auto mechanically operated gated barrage in Nikki and Waddi Tawi downstream of main Jammu Tawi bridge at Belicharana.
The Minister instructed Chief Engineer PHE and Irrigation Rajeev Gandotra to expedite the work of straightening of pier of barrage in Nikki Tawi which was tilted during the floods in September last year.
He also instructed the  officers of the concerned agencies to expedite the pace of construction of allied works including Gates and Guide Wall. The gated barrage constructed at the cost of Rs 70 crore would help in the construction of artificial lake on river Tawi.
The Minister stressed on adherence to the timelines fixed for completion of the project as the  ambitious project of  artificial lake on river Tawi is expected to provide 120 cusecs of irrigated water which would be supplemented to Ranbir canal during peak requirement besides being  a  vital tourist attraction in Jammu
Senior officers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments accompanied the Minister during the visit.
