JAMMU, Oct 28: By not establishing paddy purchase centers Government has betrayed the farmers of the Jammu region.
Both Food Corporation of India and Agriculture Department of the State are responsible for this. Ex.MLA Marh, Choudhary Sukhnandan while taking serious exception to the same has urged the administration to establish the purchase centers. If the purchase centers were not made functional by October 30, he along with farmers will be forced to come to streets and block the roads. Every year Government establishes purchase centers to purchase the paddy from farmers. But this year these centers were not established due to which farmers are in trouble. The farmers were forced to sale their produce in distress at very low cost.
The millers are not purchasing the paddy at Government approved rates. The purchase centers which would have started functioning by October 15 are not established. He lamented at officials of Agriculture Department for not establishing the said centers. Even today Department has no knowledge of the centers whether established or not. “I have put the demand of the farmers to the advisors to the Governor’’. If the demand of establishing paddy purchase centers is not met within three days he along with farmers will block the highway’’, he added.
