Sumb villagers express resentment over abandoning of work on road

SAMBA, Jan 7: The work on Samba -Sumb road which was started about two years back has been abandoned for last two months now, for reasons best known to the R&B Department. The sudden stopping of the work has generated a lot of resentment among the people of the area.
The people of Sumb village made this problem known to the administration many times, but the administration is not paying any attention towards Sumb road. The local people demand that the road should be constructed as soon as possible. Due to the closure of work on the Samba -Sumb road for last two months, the people of the village are facing many difficulties in walking the long distance to board the matador. They said the construction work on the road has been started two years back, but it has not been completed yet due to which people of the area are in a lot of trouble, said Pankaj Sharma, a local resident.
Whenever there is rainy season, the vehicles stop running on this road. The children are facing a lot of trouble in going to school. He also said that many times the people of the village have taken up the issue with the administration but no one at the helm of affairs is paying any attention to solve the problem due to which the people of the village are very upset.
Baba Shivo Shrine Committee, Chairman, Desraj Sharma said that due to the closure of this road work for the last two months, the devotees who came to visit Baba Shivo also face many hardships to visit the shrine because the condition of this road is very bad. It is difficult to drive on this road. The devotees are unable to reach Baba Shivo Devsthan Goran due to the deterioration of the road. They are also demanding that the work of this road be completed as soon as possible.
Excelsior correspondent while talking with Rajesh Abrol, Executive Engineer PWD, said that the contractors have stopped the work of this road due to non-payment of bills. Now the funds have been released, the contractors will start the road work soon.
The people of Sumb village have also made an appeal to Lieutenant Governor, G C Murmu and sought his intervention in the matter.
