JAMMU, Apr 25: J&K player Sumitpal Singh today sailed into the quarterfinal round of the ongoing All India superseries Ranking Tournament of AITA at Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association Stadium.
In his first match, Sumitpal defeated Parikshit Somani of Assam by 6-2 and 6-0 points and in the pre-quarterfinal match, he thrashed Sagar Bains of Chandigarh by 6-2 and 6-3 and will face Paramveer Singh Bajwa of Punjab in quarterfinals.
In the 16 age group, Sumitpal Singh defeated Chinmay of Delhi. In pre-quarterfinal match, Sumitpal lost to Allen Jhonson of Kerala.
In doubles event under 16 years age group, Sumitpal Singh along with his partner Akhil Bansal reached the semifinal by defeating Vikas Beriwal of Haryana and Deepak of Delhi. In pre-quarterfinal match, the duo defeated Rahul Seth of Chandigarh and K Mehtaba of NTA by 6-2 and 6-1 points.
