POONCH, Aug 26: Sumo and Auto-Rikshaw driver operators observed ‘Chakka Jam’ strike and staged protest dharna at Tehsil headquarters, Mandi in Poonch district today.
President of the Union, Mashoq Ahmed said that the fare as per Km in rate list issued by Transport department last year is very less and drivers are not in a position to go with that.
He said that ARTO Poonch, yesterday toured Mandi area and asked to charge fare as per the old passenger fare list in which rates are very less and it is injustice with them. He said to lodge their protest against the decision of the ARTO, the operators today have gone on strike.
‘Chakka Jam’ strike was observed the whole day today and later in the evening, Union members met with Deputy Commissioner Poonch and ARTO Poonch with a written representation and threadbare discussion was held on the issue.
ARTO Poonch, Basharat Mehmood assured them to do whatever is possible in the matter, later strike was called off.
