SRINAGAR : A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit the Kashmir valley this evening even though bright sunshine greeted people this morning after some improvement in the minimum temperature. Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway, closed since December last year, remained coldest in the region with minus 19 degree celsius, though recording an improvement of two degrees.
A Met department spokesperson said a fresh WD is likely to hit the region and will remain active till tomorrow evening which could result in rain or snow. At Leh, it was minus 10.6 degree against minus 13.1 degree, he said.
The summer capital, Srinagar, woke up to a sunny morning though icy cold winds continued after some improvement in the minimum temperature.
Against yesterday’s minus 1.9 degree, the minimum temperature was minus 1.5 degree, half a notch below normal. Gulmarg, world famous ski resort was coldest in the valley after the minimum temperature was recorded minus 7.2 degree, about one notch above normal. At Pahalgam it was minus 6.5 degree against yesterday’s minus nine degree.
Qazigund recorded minus 3.4 degree, Kokernag minus 2.6 degree and Kupwara minus 1.8 degree, he said. (AGENCIES)
