SRINAGAR, Oct 25: Minister for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today convened a meeting to review the functioning of Jammu & Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC).
The meeting reviewed the overall functioning of the Corporation and sought suggestions so as to making it better equipped for their improved services.
Seeking detailed information about the implementation of decisions taken in previously held 74th and 75th JKSRTC Board of Directors meeting, the Minister was informed that the up gradation of public transport service is under progress and various other works have also been put in place by the Corporation.
While discussing the further steps needed to be taken to improve the revenue generating capacity of the Corporation and strengthening its men and machinery, the Minister was appraised that the Corporation has generated revenue of Rs. 48 crore during last six months of the current financial year.
Seeking details about the current vehicle strength of the Corporation and condition of workshops the Minister was informed that there are 833 vehicles of Corporation operating out of which 247 are under maintenance process. He was also informed that 184 vehicles of the Corporation have been damaged during uncertainty.
The Minister directed the concerned to improve the work culture of workshops by digitization and adoption of modern methods so that maintenance of vehicle is made possible on time. He also directed the concerned to submit a report regarding the functioning of these workshops within fifteen days.
Seeking details about the Darbar Move preparations the Minister was informed that 150 trucks and 60 buses of the Corporation will be operating during the Darbar Move.
The Minister said that the Corporation is face of the Transport Department and there is need of innovative ideas, modern methods and bringing transparency in its functioning. He also directed the Managing Director of the Corporation to take monthly review meeting with his officers to improve its functioning.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner-Secretary, Transport Bipul Pathak, Special Secretary Transport Itrat Hussain Rafiqui, Managing Director JKSRTC G.A Sofi and various other officials from JKSRTC.
