NEW DELHI, Mar 21: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss important developmental and security issues facing the region.
As per a statement, during the meeting, Sharma raised concerns regarding vital infrastructure and security matters in Jammu and Kashmir.
He specifically highlighted the need for increased focus on economic development, employment, and border area improvement in the region, given its strategic importance.
Sharma also called for stronger security measures to prevent cross-border threats.
Sharma praised the Modi Government’s efforts in promoting peace, infrastructure development, and security in Jammu and Kashmir but urged further action.
He made specific requests for the completion of key projects, including the road from Tourist Reception Centre to Sarkoot Mandir in Kishtwar, which has been delayed due to clearance issues with the Army.
Sharma also raised the issue of land near the Kishtwar Helipad, which is currently being used by the Army on a rental basis, and called for either formal acquisition or return of the land to its original owners.
Additionally, Sharma emphasized the need for the construction of the Kishtwar Airstrip for civilian use under the Udaan scheme, which would improve connectivity, tourism, and economic growth.
He also advocated for the establishment of a permanent Army cantonment in the district.
Rajnath Singh listened attentively to the concerns and assured that the Government would take all necessary steps to address the issues in a timely manner, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the well-being of the region’s residents and its security.
Sharma also called on Union MoS in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh in New Delhi and shared his inputs about the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session besides discussing the developmental projects related to Kishtwar.
Sharing the details, Dr Jitendra Singh wrote on X, “LoP Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma called on at my New Delhi residence today. Gave his inputs about the currently ongoing J&K Assembly session and also discussed development projects related to Kishtwar.”
